Alsoc Day

Dear Members,

For the First time with the Assembly of the entire School we will Pay homage to Rev. Fr. Camille Bouche and celebrate ALSOC Day on the 10th of November 2014 at St. Xavier’s School grounds. The Late Rev. Fr. Bouche — the guiding light and the moving spirit of the old boys’ association — was the prefect, headmaster and the president of ALUMNORUM SOCIETAS or Alsoc. Rev. Fr. Bouche was very popular among School boys, and what better way to celebrate his Birthday than with the School Boys.

A Talk and Interaction session will be held with Dr. Kunal Sarkar for Alsoc members at the Main Parlour. Dr. Sarkar an Alumni member and a Cardiologist will be talking about Health issues relevant for Alsoc members.

There will be a Free Health Check Up Camp in memory of Rev. Fr. Bouche after the School hours. Some of the check up facilities being provided by Dr Kunal Sarkar from Medica will be Body Weight, Blood Pressure, Blood Sugar, ECG. Dr Sarkar is also arranging some follow up discounts for the patients.

The Award Ceremony

Dear Members,

During the Funeral Mass of Fr. Boris, Mr. Barry O’Brien announced the good news of Late Fr. Boris D’Santos being posthumously honoured with The Telegraph School of Awards for Excellence 2014.

The Award Ceremony will be held on 30th August, 2014 at 9:15 A.M. at Science City Auditorium. It is a moment of pride for each one of us at St. Xavier’s Collegiate School & Alsoc.

A musical game show

Alsoc Family Series gets underway with overwhelming success of the Musical Quiz Extravaganza superbly hosted by Ace Quiz master Gaurav Gupta assisted by his Charming daneuse wife Vasundhara and live Music Band. Alsoc members with wives and children sang with gusto to each googly thrown at them and Xaviers Hall for over 02 hours rocked with Merrymaking, Singing and Dancing followed by some mouth watering refreshments at the Parlour.

Alumni Annual Soccer Tournament

The 2nd edition of the Inter Alumni Annual Soccer Tournament, hosted by Calcutta Boys was held on 3rd August, 2014, Sunday. Team Alsoc were the defending champions having beaten Alma in last year’s final.

We faced Birla in our opening game and handed them a 4-1 defeat. Making our way to the semi final we encountered Calcutta Boys and they perished in quite the same fashion.

Score line read 3-0. The final was against St.James who proved to be worthy opponents, not allowing us to extend our score beyond 2-0. Lots of senior Alsoc members braved the rain to come down and cheer their team.

The tournament concluded with the prize distribution, high spirits and a Chinese lunch.

Alsoc Day

The guidance, inspiration and mentorship of the departed souls of various Rev. Fathers who had built, shaped and guided Alsoc is remembered on Alsoc Day.

To commemorate the memory of and pay homage to Rev. Fr. Camille Bouche in a meaningful way a FREE HEALTH CHECK UP CAMP was organized on ALSOC day. This took place at St. Xavier’s School Gym under the leadership of Mr. Kalyan Chowdhury with the support of Dr. Kunal Sarkar. It was targeted not only at senior members but also deserving and underprivileged sections of society. Apart from the Staff of the School the parents of children studying in the evening school were invited and many senior citizens including those from an old age home got the benefit of this new and satisfying initiative. The camp was sponsored by R. N. Tagore Hospital. About 150 people including Rev. Fathers, Alsoc members, members from old age home, school staff, Titli/Evening school children and their parents came for check up. Dr. Ananda Chanda and his group rendered Rabindra Sangeet in homage to Rev. Fr, Bouche and other departed Fathers.

INTER ALUMNI CRICKET

This year Inter Alumni Cricket Tournament was organized first time on 9th & 10th March, 2013 at St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, under the leadership of Mr. Amish Raja & Sharat Singh. Eight teams from eight city schools walked into the cricket grounds sporting their school colours- Birla (Hindi) High School, Calcutta Boys’ School, La Martiniere for Boys, Don Bosco School (Park Circus), St. James’ School, The Frank Anthony Public School, Hartley Public School and St. Xavier’s Collegiate School(Alsoc). The outdoor format only for alumni of the other school was inaugurated by the President, Fr. Benny Thomas S. J., Inter Alumni Cricket Tournament 2013 Winner is La Martiniere for Boys after the game all had snacks following which the prizes were distributed. It was a superb tournament for friendship and brotherhood and reinforced the close bond between the alumni of other school.

ALCRICKET

This year ALCRICKET was organized on Saturday 9th & 10th March, 2013 at St. Xavier’s Collegiate School, under the leadership of Mr. Amish Raja. It was divided into two parts, one format played indoor at the Gymnasium. The indoor format only for Alsoc members and school teachers was inaugurated by the President, Fr. Benny Thomas S.J., and father & son tournament, after the game, all had snacks, following which the prizes were distributed. It was a superb tournament for friendship and brotherhood and reinforced the close bond between the teachers, students and members of Alsoc.

Annual Reunion

The 35th Reunion (Magic) was held on 15th December, 2012 at St. Xavier’s Collegiate School under the leadership of Mr. Anirudh Kajaria. Renowned story teller Lord Jeffery Archer was the Chief Guest for this reunion who addressed the gathering and also had a very interesting interactive session with the audience. Thereafter Lord Jeffrey Archer obliged the members by signing books. Many old boys had gathered on the ground and enjoyed meeting their batchmates. The entertainment programme also included band performance by well known Bollywood singer Mr. Javed Ali, who enthralled the audience by his songs. Finally DJ Ravi performed. The whole event was a grand success. Approximately 1000 members along with their spouses, Jesuit Priests, teachers and staff of SXCS participated in this reunion. Food stalls were also set up. This Reunion was a grand success for the fellowship generated.

Alsoc International challenge Debate

Alsoc Challenge Debate was held on 14th December, 2012 at the St. Xavier’s auditorium for the first time. Under the Convenorship of Dr. Kunal Sarkar the participants were Oxford University, Cambridge University, Calcutta University, Presidency College, Loreto College and St. Xavier’s Collegiate School. The motion of the debate was “Social communication is the failure of communication”. The entire event was extensively covered by the Telegraph. Approx. 500 people attended the event.

Dr. Sandip Chatterjee was the moderator of this Debate. Mr. Shourya Dasgupta a participant of SXCS was congratulated by all the members for winning the debate. Mr. Aditya Vikram Lodha (Hon. Secretary) thanked Dr. Kunal Sarkar and Mr. Sandip Chatterjee for increasing the brand image of Alsoc. The winner of the debate was St. Xavier’s Collegiate School & College and the runner up team was Oxford University. In the next year apart from Oxford & Cambridge University other renowned foreign Universities are also expected to participate.

Alsoc Family Quiz

The First Alsoc family Quiz was held on 3rd November 2012 at Xavier Hall, under the leadership of Mr. Shankar Ramalingam. More than 19 teams participated in the Quiz. The Quiz Master was Mr. Kinshuk Bhattacharya and RJ Ms. Ruthline Saha. Around 250 members with their families were present. It was attempted first time to hold such event and it was successful. The hall was packed to capacity. Mr. Sanjay Loiwal’s team was the winner. Fr. Boris D’Santos S.J. presented mementoes to the teams. The quiz ended with a dinner, which was attended by Jesuit Fathers, team members, teachers and Alsoc members with their spouses.
